Terracotta has been around since 26,000 BC — simple, humble, unchanged. Which made it the perfect canvas to reimagine. Using a 20W diode laser, some light engineering, and a lot of curiosity, I set out to give the classic terra-cotta pot a modern, design-led upgrade. This project is about pushing materials — hardwoods, veneers, acrylic — to see how far they can bend, flex, and form. Each piece is a small experiment in concept, craft, and precision. Kerfs, bends, tolerances, heat… it’s all part of the exploration.

It’s also my crash course in e-commerce: making a product, pricing it, photographing it, and putting it into the world through the JA Studio Store on Etsy. Selling is a bonus — learning is the goal. And in the end, it’s all about iteration and invention: making, refining, and pushing ideas forward until something truly fruitful emerges.
I'm inspired by MCM artifacts, patterns and design motifs around my home and in the wild.
Each piece begins in Adobe Illustrator, then moves into Xtool Creative for final prep.
The M1 Ultra’s 20W diode laser handles dark materials beautifully, from walnut to black acrylic. Looks great on a shelf or desk | handmade by JA Studio.
